What Is Somatic Coaching?

Somatic Coaching is healing through the body — not just talking about what happened, but working with where it still lives.

Your Body Keeps The Score

Your body stores memories and experiences. Not as a metaphor, but as tension, pain, tight shoulders, a clenched jaw, shallow breathing. As the knot in your stomach before a hard conversation. As exhaustion you can't explain.

Sensations you've probably been taught to ignore or push through.

Traditional talk therapy is vital, but it can't always reach what's stored in the body. You can understand your story logically and still feel it physically. The body needs its own way in.

That's where somatic work comes in.

It's Not Just In Your Head

This approach draws from psychology, neuroscience, and bodywork. It bridges science and somatics to help you come back into relationship with yourself.

And it comes down to three things:

1. Mindfulness (Noticing)

The practice of feeling what you're actually feeling. Not fixing, not analyzing, just noticing. Where is there holding? Where is there numbness? What is your breath doing right now?

Awareness is the first tool. The more aware you become of your body's internal state — what neuroscientists call interoception — the better you get at managing your emotions.

2. Breathwork (Regulating)

Your breath is the remote control to your nervous system. A shallow, fast breath tells your body you're in danger. A slow, deep breath tells your body it's safe to let go.

We use breath not to bypass emotion, but to regulate enough to stay present with it.

3. Movement (Releasing)

Emotions are energy in motion. When we don't have the space to express them, that energy gets stuck. Intentional movement — shaking, stretching, undulating, grounding — gives the body a way to complete what it couldn't in the moment of stress or trauma.

It's not about performance. It's about release.

You don't have to force healing. You have to allow your body to do what it was already trying to do: come back to balance.

Somatic Coaching isn't about adding more to your to-do list. It's about listening to what your body has been trying to tell you all along.
